Strong Daughters is one of those rare books that manages to be immensely wise without ever becoming heavy. Julie-Ann is incredibly articulate, frequently very funny, and so enjoyable to read that you can almost miss just how much wisdom she is quietly handing you.
These are the lessons I wish women of my generation had been taught when we were young, particularly about money, relationships, independence, self-trust and the importance of not abandoning yourself in order to build a life with someone else. It also feels extraordinarily timely.
Women are living through a profound period of change in the way we relate to work, money, partnership, motherhood and our own autonomy, yet many of us are still carrying inherited ideas designed for an entirely different world. Strong Daughters feels like a deeply intelligent and compassionate guide to navigating this new one. I found myself repeatedly thinking, ‘God, I wish someone had told me this twenty years ago.’
